I have always said Elizabeth Arden has her Red Door and I have my Red Chair, now I have 2 Red Chairs. On our visit to Minerva the entire team was able to come and tour the Mobile Day Spa. I had no idea what was going on. Justin and another young man came out to the Mobile Day Spa with a box. The said "We decided this would look better in here." They brought in a brand new Red Shampoo Chair!! They took it right out of the box, assembled it and put it in it's place. It looks awesome!!! What a difference that made. I would smile and then I would cry( a happy cry of course.) The Mobile Day Spa looks even more like the palace we wanted it to be for these amazing women that we have the opportunity to serve. Thank you Minerva for Blessing us!!!!

The Rolling BillBoard Part 2

So tonight we are sitting at dinner and Mike's phone rings. He answers it "Hello Gorgeous! this is Mike how can I help you?" The man on the other end of the phone starts to tell Mike his story. He told us that he saw the bus as we passed through Nashville, TN and he wrote the phone number down. He was calling us from his wife's hospital room, she had just had a portion of her liver removed due to a cancerous tumor. He went on to explain that he is in the Military and that they have a 2 month old child. The reason for his call is that his wife is an esthitician and that when they get through this hump in their life that they would like to help us with Hello Gorgeous!. Mike told him to keep us in the loop and to contact us when they were ready and by then hopefully we would have an affiliate in their area. These people are absolutely amazing and I wouldn't miss this journey for the world. May God Bless this couple and their family!

Touching lives with our big rolling billboard

We stopped at a truck stop just south of Nashville for a quick potty break. On this leg of the journey Mike and I were re-capping the trip and asking each other if we had done enough. Were we impacting people, have we touched enough people. I got out of the Mobile Day Spa and a young man, about mid twenties said " Maam I'm about ready to leave if you guys want to back up a little bit further." I said " that would be great I will let my husband know." He then said "Hey I think what ya'll are doing is great. My aunt had breast cancer and if you don't mind I'd like to give you a hug." I said "I would love that." We hugged and both parted with tears in our eyes.

You know what we are impacting people, just not fast enough. I believe that a ton of people have seen this rolling billboard we are driving and they are touched, in some way they are touched!

We had the esteem pleasure of stopping by Minerva Beauty in Duluth, Georgia on our way back to Indiana. Minerva donated the manicure table, shampoo bowl and shampoo chair to the Mobile Day Spa. We were so excited to share with them what they helped to create. When we arrived we were greeted with a very warm welcome. They even had Chick -fil- a catered in for lunch. We were lucky enough to take a tour of their facility and see how things work (which is my favorite). We spent 3 hours with these wonderful group of people and we are so honored to have them in our circle of support!

My husband never ceases to amaze me

8 months ago when we found out that we had been invited to the Premiere Show and that it was in Orlando, we started saving our change so that we could purchase tickets to the Magic Kingdom for a day while we were there. Yesterday was that day. What a reward after saving for all that time and arriving at the most magical place on earth. We had a great day and short waits on many of the attractions. One of Mike's favorite is a moving theatre called The Carousel of Progress. As most of you know Mike is a liver patient for 15 years and has his challenges with his health and has come very close to loosing his life a few times. If you ask Mike if he is having a good day he will say to you "everyday is a good day!"

While on this attraction, there was a young boy that arrived after us. I would venture to say that he was 9 or 10 in an electric wheelchair and had a machine that was helping him breathe. The young man was with his parents and a person that I assumed was his caregiver. The little boy was not in good shape. Mike leaned over to me and said "See I am the luckiest guy walking!"

Mike wears a red "Live with Passion" bracelet on his left hand and a watch and a yellow "Livestrong" bracelet on his right hand. After the show Mike removed his

"Livestrong" bracelet and walked over and talked to this young boys father then I watched as the young boy make his hand into a fist and Mike placed his "Livestrong" bracelet on his wrist. Mike explained to this young boy that he is a 15 year liver patient and that he needs to keep fighting! The young man smiled and nodded.

I always say that my husband is the most amazing man and he proves it everyday. He is a man of integrity and passion and I love him more today than yesterday!

A Traveler after our own heart!

So we were unloading the bus today after the show and getting ready for our talks this week and next. There was a luggage cart in the hotel lobby that was filled to the brim with "stuff". This young woman saw our shirts and the bus and said "what do you guys do?" We told her about Hello Gorgeous! about our vision to help woman with cancer. She told us the she was a hairdresser from Boise, Idaho and her name is Kimberly and that she is taking a 6 week tour and taking all of the classes and education that she can. She explained that education doesn't come to Boise, so she had to go looking for it! She had attended the Premiere show but did not see us. She was off to Charleston, NC and making her way to New York City. We gave her a tour of the Mobile Day Spa and a Hello Gorgeous! T-Shirt and a big hug and said our goodbyes.
So many of us won't take time out of our day to learn something new and I had the pleasure of meeting someone that was committing 6 weeks on the road to learn everything she could about something that she loves.
My Hat is off to you Kimberly!

The Premiere Show in Orlando is one of THE largest hair shows in the United States.
14 years ago I attended a Matrix conference at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando and I have always wanted to return to attend the Premiere show, never ,ever thinking that we would be able to be a vendor at this show. On Wednesday June 1st, 2011 we drove the bus inside the convention center and parked it on the show floor and were honored to be one of the 2300 vendors at this hair show. The attendance was amazing, as was the outpouring of support from the attendees. We spoke with salon owners, stylists, beauty school owners and students. We talked with people, that without attending this show we would have never met.

At the end of May, Sandy's Hair Design held their 2nd fundraiser. It was a Spring Fashion Show and luncheon. Sandy and her team worked very hard and the event was a huge success.
I was fortunate enough to MC the event. Dressbarn provided all of the clothes, Papa Murphy's donated the garlic bread, Max and Erma's donated the soup and Sandy made all of the salads and desserts. The venue, Newton Center, was donated by Hoosier Tire.
All of the models for the event were Gorgeous! Women that Sandy and her team had done make-overs on. I only knew a couple of the women, the rest I had never met, but yet they had been touched by our program. Wow, what a feeling!!
My big dream is to walk into a room filled with people that I have brought together. The trainers that trained the salons owners and their staff and the Gorgeous! women that these salons have performed make-overs on and no one will know me. Sandy gave me a small glimpse of what that big picture will look like.

She is a Rock Star!

Jade was nominated by 2 of her co-workers. She is a wife, daughter and the proud mother of 2. She was also diagnosed with Stage 4 liver and colon cancer. We decided that Jade would make a great candidate for our Saint Patrick's Day Tent Party at TGIFriday's on Ireland Rd in South Bend, Indiana. Jade's mom was taking her to dinner ( so she thought) I received a text message describing what Jade was wearing (one of the challenges in making sure that you surprise the right person.)
The Mobile Day Spa was parked outside in the parking lot. Given the description that I was texted, I spotted Jade and her mom as they arrived, only to my surprise she was walking across the parking lot and right toward the Mobile Day Spa. I mouthed to the girls "this is her!"
The volunteers talked her into buying an event shirt and answered all of the questions that she asked. Jade told me that she worked for Monaco Coach and that she had talked to either Mike or I about the donation from Monaco of a vehicle. Jade then asked " are you doing a make-over tonight?" We fibbed and told her no, that this was a fundraiser for Hello Gorgeous! and we were just here to support TGIFriday's. Jade then told me that she loved what we did and that she was a cancer survivor. I told her congratulations and we said our goodbyes and I walked into the Mobile Day Spa and told the girls "That is our make-over!" That had never happened before.

We gave her a few minutes to get settled in the restaurant. We gathered the chocolate, the flowers and her certificate and marched inside TGIFriday's to tell Jade that we had lied. We were doing a make-over and it is on her!

We had a great night! Sandy's Hair Design was the make-over team, and they pampered Jade with a pedicure, manicure, a facial, a new wig and a new outfit from Dressbarn. We revealed Jade on the stage with Shock Roxy in front of 500+ people! What a great night!!!

Jade is now cancer free and an inspiration to all of us!! She really is a Rock Star!!

She toured the Mobile Day Spa and "GOT" our mission. Integrity has given us their support in so many ways.

Gayle introduced me to Janel and the staff at Studio 21 in Gurnee, Illinois, which is now a certified Hello Gorgeous! Affiliate. When we arrived at Studio 21 to certify the staff, Gayle presented Hello Gorgeous! with a check from Integrity. I was completely shocked and humbled!

The Greatest Kid in the World!

We have THE Greatest child in the world! He is so patient with us and puts up with so much from us never saying a word, I almost forget that he is only 8. We drove for 18+ hours in the bus to get to Florida. Never a complaint, never a whine. We woke him up at 5:00 am to get on the road on Memorial Day never a sore word, he just got up. We arrived in Florida on Tuesday and went to the grocery store to pick up some staples, water, fruit and veggies.

Mike and I were wearing our Hello Gorgeous! shirts(of course) and the check out girl says "those are so cute what is Hello Gorgeous!?" Our son, before we could ever say a word went into his spiel.
"Hello Gorgeous! is a non-profit that my parents founded and we provide complimentary make-overs to women with cancer. We do a manicure, pedicure, make-up and we even give her a wig." Mike steps in and says " Bet you didn't know you were going to get all that?" Seth says "she just wants to feel normal, so we make her feel normal again."

We couldn't be more proud of him. What an amazing life lesson he is learning, compassion for others.

We have THE Greatest kid and we couldn't love him anymore!

This is a story that needs to be told.

Heather and her mom had a pretty close relationship and then it got a little closer.
In June of 2010 Heather was diagnosed with breast cancer and in
July 2010 her mom Sharon was diagnosed with breast cancer. Heather told us that she and her mom were able to take many of their treatments together. We recieved a nomination for Heather and when we found out that they both were battling the same disease we decided to perform the 1st double make-over in the Mobile Day Spa. Heather's cousin was able to get her to the Century Center for a Girls Night Out event. Sharon was told that Heather was getting a make-over to get her there. To their surprise they were both recieving make-overs that night. The BeeHive salon came as our make-over team and Maurice's donated all of the clothes. We had arranged for Heather's and Sharon's family and friends to arrive at the Century Center approximately 3 hours after the start of the make-over for the big reveal. ( This too was a big surprise to both girls.)

When the makeover was complete the crowd of over 100 people let out a great big "HELLO GORGEOUS!" and Heather and her mom walked out onto the stage, both with smiles from ear to ear.

Heather told me that she and her mom had been through some pretty nasty stuff together and that it was great to go through something positive together.

Warsaw has a special place in my heart. Last year we did a visit on an amazing woman named Tracy Yeager. She was the first visit that we did outside of the South Bend, Mishawaka area.

The Best Mother-in-Law Ever! In Loving Memory of Dr. Jeanine Becker R.N., M.A., Ph.D

This week 14 years ago Mike's mom left us. It is so hard to believe that it has been that long. I think about all that has happened in that time and think"where did it go?" My mother-in-law was the best. Classy, loving, caring and the best laugh ever. My mother-in-law was making a difference. She was the Regional Director for the Motherhood and Childcare Development at Memorial Hospital, she achieved all her college studies after the age of 40, she was an Adjunct Professor at Notre Dame teaching empowerment to young nursing students, she was a professional grant writer and she was working on a study about SIDS and about the affect of lead poisoning on children. In December of 1996 Jeanine was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, a Glioblastoma. The doctors performed surgery on Christmas Eve that year and told us she had 6 months to live, she survived 4 1/2 months and passed away April of the following year. I have always said that when I die God and I are going to lunch because I have alot of questions that I need to have answered. My mother-in-Law was all about education and, in the end, the cancer took her mind. I don't get it. I remember this story very fondly. When Mike and I first started dating his mom was asking him questions about me. She wanted to know where I went to school. Mike told her that I went to beauty school and her response was that "she is not right for you, you need someone that is college educated." Well that summer I was invited to go on the family vacation to Minnesota. While at the lake with them I offer to do her hair for her. I told her that it was silly to pay someone when I was happy to do it for nothing. Now Jeanine had gone to the same hairdresser for quite some time and they were roller setting her hair, which I always felt aged her. So when I did her hair I used a blow dryer and curling iron. She looked 10 years younger. I did her hair twice more that week. At that time she announced that she would like a standing 4:30 appointment every Friday and that she was going to write a note to her soon-to-be "former" hairdresser and let her know that there was now a hairdresser in the family. I then knew that I would be "ok" for Mike. I was known as the "Hair Wizard" Jeanine would have loved Hello Gorgeous! She would have been at every event and had every item of her clothing embroidered with the Hello Gorgeous! logo. She would have been all about this project. Jeanine's PhD dissertation was on "Empowerment". She had always talked about traveling in a Prevost and lecturing on this subject. And in some ways I feel like Mike and I have taken up her torch and are moving it forward, in her honor. Miss you Mom.

The Salon Affiliate Program

Our home is our office. We live, eat and breathe Hello Gorgeous! because we love it! Looking around our living room I laughed thinking that Martha Stewart Living would never do a story on my house unless it was in the "Don't" section. We took these pictures so we always remember how we started. I don't ever want to forget how we started this project. The dining room table filled with file folders and right next to the table and toy box filled with our sons toys. As I was thinking of that I came to realize that I have never really explained the salon affiliate program that we developed to help more women, so I thought I would take this time to do so. Last summer when Mike and I were on tour meeting these amazing women, we realized that there are just too many women for us to help on our own, so we developed the Hello Gorgeous! Salon Affiliate Program. We decided to instill the profession that I have loved for 25 years and create a training program that teaches them how to create the Hello Gorgeous! experience in their own salon. We look for upscale, professional, commission based salons and invite them to become a part of our program. Once they accept we provide them with everything that they need to perform 12 Hello Gorgeous! Experiences in a year and the training that they need to carry off the level of service that we envision. We also teach them the precautions that need to be taken on a women with a compromised immune system. This program allows us to reach so many more woman and we share the feeling that we feel when this amazing transformation takes place in these inspirational women. We have had the opportunity to perform the Hello Gorgeous! Experiences in the salon before the Mobile Day Spa existed. We have performed them in the Mobile Day Spa. We have had make-over teams perform the make-overs in the Mobile Day Spa and We have performed the make-overs in the Affiliate Salons and we have noticed that the outcome is the same. That transformation inside and out is exactly the same. As of right now we have 10 affiliates from South Bend to Indianapolis and 2 pending applications from Minnesota and Maryland. I am very excited to watch this program unfold and blossom. I will continue to update as we reach new cities and new states.

A Tribute to 2 Women

Last summer we took a 6 week tour to introduce our concept to the state of Indiana. On that journey we met some of the most amazing and inspirational women of my life. Each of them different stories, different cancers but the same strengths. Kathy (top picture) battled breast cancer that had traveled to her brain, Phyllis (lower picture) battled Mesothelioma. I am so honored to have met both of these amazing women and am so glad that I had the opportunity to spend the time with them that I did, to hear the stories of their families and the stories of their lives . I got to see the courage and the strength that each of these women had and the fight with-in them to battle this horrible disease. Each of these women lost their battle this past month. I am a better person for having the opportunity to meet these strong women. Heaven is a much better place to have 2 wonderful angels like you. May you have the peace you both deserve.

First Gorgeous! Experience at Creative Edge Salon and Spa Mishawaka, Indiana.

Creative Edge Salon has graciously accepted our invitation to be the 1st Hello Gorgeous! Affiliate in Mishawaka and we are very proud to have them as apart of the Hello Gorgeous! Family. On March 19th, 2011 Creative Edge performed their first Hello Gorgeous! Experience in their salon.

Anita arrived at Creative Edge in Mishawaka not knowing why she was there. The team at Creative Edge was anxiously waiting for her to arrive. When Anita walked in the door she walked onto a red carpet and was greeted with candy , flowers and a big Hello Gorgeous!

Anita was treated to a manicure, a pedicure, a facial, a new wig, a new outfit and her make-up applied. When she was all done we had one more surprise for her, we had a party planned at Applebee's in her honor. There we more than 35 people waiting to see Anita's new look.

Anita was nominated by her brother, who lives in Arkansas. He came to Indiana for her special day. Anita also has 2 very special daughters who spent her day with her which made it that much more special for her!

"Help me Help Others"

On February 7th I recieved and e-mail titled "Help me help others" I was intrigued and opened the e-mail only to find one of the most couragous women I have ever met.

Danielle wrote me to tell me her story. She explained in the e-mail that she was a 32 year old stay at home mom to a wonderful son named Dylan. She told me that 8 days after Dylan was born she was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of cervical cancer called Limited Small Cell Neuro Endocrine Carcinoma. This cell is typically found in lung cancer patients but hers was found in her cervix . Danielle had 12 rounds of chemo and a Hysterctomy berfore Dylan was 13 weeks old.

Dylan will be 3 in April and Danielle is CANCER FREE!! She was given our website address by a friend but had actually seen the bus on Highway 37 last year when we were on tour in Noblesville. After reading this e-mail from this amazing woman I contacted her and told her that I needed to meet her in person, if nothing else just to give her a hug. Last week on our trip to Noblesville we did meet and we shared a very tearful hug and sat and chatted for nearly 3 hours. What an inpirtational woman, someone who wants to take what they have been through and what they have learned from her experience to help others. We told her that we would help her in any way that we knew how. I am honored to know Danielle and I am a better person for knowing her.

Valentin's Day 2011

As most of you know our mission is to provide complimentary make-overs to all women battling all cancers. That is our 1st love. Our second love is to help children. For the last 3 years we have gone to the pediatric floor at Memorial Hospital to give the children in the hospital a Valentine's Day Party. We take cookies to decorate with all the fixxins', we paint nails and toes, we even apply temporary tattoos and this year we even did some face painting. What a joy to put a smiles on these little faces.
A great big thank you to all of our volunteers that came and helped us this year!! You are the best!!

Bowling for Beauty!

On February 19th,2011 we hosted the 2nd annual Bowling for Beauty Party at
Chippewa Bowling Lanes in South Bend, Indiana. We had a great turnout! This was a family friendly event with a tropical theme. We held a 40 item silent auction and a "best costume" contest.
We had a few surprises, A Thousands Words Photography brought their photo booth, Papa Murphy's brought the Pizza Guy and Zumba Kelly Thrall brought her crew for a Flash Mob of Zumba! It was a great event! We packed the entire Bowling Alley with great people and great Music by Custom Sounds Mobile DJ. We can not wait until next year!!

On Tuesday February 22, 2011 we certified Rain Salon and Spa in Noblesville, Indiana. What a wonderful group of women. We met Rain Salon and Spa last summer when we were on our tour. They helped us with Gorgeous! Visit that we did at Hamilton Town Center. It was the beginning of a beautiful relationship. They are now eligible to perform Gorgeous! Visits in their salon. We are so lucky to have Jill Kuharic and her team from The Beehive in South Bend, Indiana as part of the Hello Gorgeous! Family. In October, we certified Jill and her team to become Hello Gorgeous! Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and that everyone is gearing up for the new year. I decided that I wanted to give the New Year a theme that I would follow for the whole year. As I celebrate the successes of my personal life as well as with Hello Gorgeous! for 2010 I also remember some of the things that fell short and I decided to ask "Why?" I realized that I am a wellspring of information. For example, I know that if I get up at 5 am everyday and workout that eventually my butt will get smaller. I know that if I have a smooth peaceful morning with my son before school that he will have a great day. I know that if I call the loved one of a nominated Gorgeous! woman that they will be elated that they received a call from me. I know that if I put the pen to paper that my book will be written. I know that there are some people that I will never make happy and yet I continue to try.

Even though I have the knowledge of all of the useful information, I have made the choice not to apply it on a regular basis. That is why my theme for this year is" Apply What I Know". I am going to apply this knowledge that I have to gain new knowledge and help more people and leave my mark on this world. Follow me this year and see what I have learned by Applying What I Know!

What's My Crazy Life All About

I had a wonderful opportunity on Saturday to speak at a workshop series called "What's My Crazy Life All About?" The workshop was hosted by author Karen Bachert at Trine University in Mishawaka, Indiana. This first session was called " When Opportunity Knocks". It had all of the ingredients that are important for building a successful life. I was asked to share our story about Hello Gorgeous! and how I answered the door when opportunity knocked and I let it in.

This workshop is a series of 3 and will continue on August 28th,2010 and October 2nd, 2010. Seats are still available for the remaining 2 workshops at www.whatsmycrazylifeallabout.com .

A Story of Inspiration

We were Lucky enough to be invited to the Susan G. Komen Walk in Mishawaka, Indiana this year. We decided that we would award a Gorgeous! Experience to a breast cancer survivor at this year's event. Our winner was not well enough to attend but her team, Tracy's Team, accepted her award in her honor. We were told that she was elated to hear that she had won a day of beauty. Tracy was going to be the 1st stop on our tour, the middle of June and we were very excited to put Warsaw Indiana on our tour schedule.

2 weeks later I received a phone call from Tracy's mother-in-law asking when her visit was going to take place. We explained to her that Tracy was our 1st stop out of South Bend on our tour and that would make it the middle of June. She requested that we move the date of Tracy's visit up. She explained that Tracy could really use it. I spoke with Trish and we decided to take care of Tracy the
Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend.

Tracy had suffered from breast cancer. She spoke very frank about her disease. She had been fighting for 5 years. She told me that the cancer was now in her lungs and in her bones, but that she thanked God everyday that it was not in her brain. I thought to myself, " What an amazing individual." Tracy was a fighter and fought her cancer with every weapon that she could get her hands on, traditional and non-traditional. She never stopped thinking of others. Even with her own pain present, she was doctoring to my husband Mike as we did her visit in the DaySpa.

We had a fantastic day with Tracy. Her friend Julie stayed and shared the visit with us. We treated Tracy to a manicure, pedicure, a facial and some hilites. I had gone shopping and picked up a couple of new shirts for Tracy to choose from and we aplied Tracy's make-up. Tracy was in some pain but did not want to miss out on any of the "Experience". She and I made a deal, I wouldn't constantly ask her if she was "ok" as long as when she wasn't "ok" that she would let us know.

Tracy's family took our suggestion and had a family get together to celebrate her new look. As Tracy was taken in the house, and we were walking up the sidewalk to join the party we heard a resounding "HELLO GORGEOUS!" from the backyard. How awesome!! When we arrived inside the house there were dozens of Tracy's Family and friends there to show their love and support for her. I kept thinking what an amazing woman - what strength. I gave Tracy a hug and a kiss on her cheek and told her to keep fighting. We drove off into the sunset and left her surrounded with love.

On Tuesday, the day after Memorial Day, we received a phone call that Tracy had passed away on Memorial Day, the day after our visit with her. I could not believe it. In my heart of hearts I thought I would see Tracy at our luncheon in November. To say the least I was in shock.

Mike and I attended the viewing and saw Tracy's friend Julie, who had spent that day with us. She said " You gave Tracy a great last day. You got her ready to meet the Lord." I will never forget that day as long as I live and I will no longer put things off until tomorrow, because it is promised to noone.

When Melissa's mom asked her to go shopping with her for a wedding gift for their friend, Kate, Melissa had no idea what was about to happen to her at the Tippecanoe Mall in Lafayette, Indiana.
Can you imagine Melissa's surprise when we found her at J.C. Penney's at the jewelery counter and surprised her with candy, flowers and a big "Hello Gorgeous!", equipped with a camera man from a local news channel. To say the least, Melissa was shocked. She kept saying, "What is happening?" Melinda from the Cancer Community Center in Lafayette told me about Melissa and recommended her for this special day of beauty.
Melissa had been diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer in July of 2009. Melissa explained that this is a difficult cancer to diagnose because it is not you typical "tumor". This cancer is more like a rash that looks like an orange peel and is very tender. Melissa had to have surgery and is now half way through her treatment and will be done in October.
We treated Melissa to a manicure, pedicure and a facial. Melissa's friend and hairstylist, Wendy from Barnyard Cuts, came to help us out on the DaySpa and cut and colored Melissa's hair.

J.C. Penney's outfitted Melissa with a new clothing look, Payless Shoe Source gifted her a new pair of shoes and several other retailers presented Melissa with gifts to help remember her special day. This also included a beautiful bracelet from Things Remembered and a gift certificate from Englin's for an additional pair of shoes.

Melissa's husband Todd was a great help and arranged a large group of friends and family to be present for her big reveal at the Main Entrance to the Mall. Melissa then went to Applebee's for dinner to celebrate her new look .

A Day Jayna needed

Planning Gorgeous! visits in cities where you don't know anyone can be very difficult. Finding the right person who will be accepting of our services or finding someone that can find you the right person is not as easy as you might think.

Just days before our arrival to Bloomington, IN for a planned visit at College Mall, I still had not found a candidate to surprise. It was 4:45 on the Friday before the Sunday that the Surprise was to take place and I had noone to make-over. So I said to Mike " As much as I don't want to, I am going to have to call Dena at College Mall and cancel our event. I can't seem to find anyone in Bloomington." Not 2 minutes later my cell phone rang. It was a radiology nurse from Bloomington that had a candidate for me and some contact information. I was so happy that we were able to keep that stop on our tour.

I spoke with Jayna's mom and she was willing to help set up the surprise. Jayna was diagnosed with lung cancer in April of 2010 and was still undergoing treatments. Jayna was having Chemotherapy and Radiation at the same time and, from my understanding, still had a way to go before being finished with her treatments.

We arranged for Jayna to be at Macy's at College Mall at noon for the surprise, and it went off with out a hitch. We whisked her away into the Mobile Day Spa for a complete transformation. The only word that Jayna kept saying was, "Wow! Wow!" We pampered Jayna with spa services. Jayna was in the process of loosing her hair due to the chemo so I shaved her head then we tried on a new wig.

The girls from Macy's; Cassie, Danielle and Jenna; were fantastic. They worked very hard to help make Jayna's day perfect. Macy's provided her with a new outfit and Jenna from Estee Lauder applied Jayna's makeup. When Jayna was finished, and looking even more Gorgeous!, we drove her over to Longhorn Steakhouse where 20 members of her family and some close friends had gathered ( which Longhorn donated) for her reveal. What a great day! Jayna looked Gorgeous! and had a renewed strength to keep fighting. I knew we had done a great job when Jayna's 14 year old daughter grabbed her when she first saw her mom. Need I say more.

Kathy was a blast!! Kathy was innocently shopping in the Muncie Mall at Bath and Body works when we turned her whole world upside down. We surprised Kathy and told her that she was nominated for a day of beauty and that she had won. She kept saying "what? I won what?"
Kathy told us about her cancer battle. Kathy was diagnosed with breast cancer in March of 2010 and she hoped that she was done with treatment. Kathy had a 17 year old daughter that she does everything for and does very little for herself. This day is not something that she would have done on her own. Kathy admitted to us that she couldn't remember the last time that she had even shopped for herself.
We treated Kathy to a manicure, pedicure, facial,a new wig and a make-up lesson. Stephanie from Maurices came and outfitted Kathy with new hip outfit. Tiffany and Katie from Muncie Mall had lined up a few surprises for Kathy form some of the retailers that were delivered to the Mobile Day Spa. When we finished with Kathy's Make-over we drove her over to Outback Steakhouse in the Mobile Day Spa for her big reveal. There Kathy was greeted by her husband, daughter and lots of their family and friends, that is Kathy looked at me with a smile on her face and said " Kim, I almost forgot I have breast cancer!" How cool is that! We allowed Kathy to escape this horrible disease.....even for a little while.

Isabel arrived at the Cheesecake Factory at Fashion Mall in Indianapolis, Indiana on Friday
July 9th, 2010 expecting to have a meeting with someone by the name of "Kim" to talk about starting a young survivors group for young cancer survivors in Indianapolis. Imagine her surprise when we found her in the bar with her husband, Seth and Robin Jackson from an organization known as Ovarcoming. Isabel was shocked to find out that she was going to be treated to a day of beauty and a make-over. Isabel is 31 years of age and was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in May 2008. It was very hard for me to hear that with ovarian cancer you very rarely get a clean bill of health. Isabel explained to us that she will always have ovarian cancer.
We created a very special day for her. Isabel received hair color and haircut, manicure, pedicure, facial and make-up. Faith Boutique donated her outfit, Apricot Lane donated shoes and jewelry and Kelly and Ed from Fashion Mall lined up a ton of gifts from other retailers that were delivered to the Mobile Day Spa through out the visit. We ended her day with a dinner get together at Sullivan's Steakhouse. Isabel truly felt like a queen and did not give her meeting a second thought.

Dawn's husband John told her that he was going to take her to lunch the Saturday before the 4th of July. He told her he really wanted to go to Applebee's at 5 Points Mall in Marion, Indiana. She had no idea what was about to happen.

We received Dawn's name from an organization call the Sharon Basset Foundation. We were informed that Dawn could use a bit of a pick me up. So we decided to give her a Gorgeous! surprise! (Dawn Before)

Dawn, her husband John and 2 of their 3 children arrived at Applebee's and just settled in and ready to order lunch when everything changed. The Gorgeous! Team showed up with flowers and candy and a big Hello Gorgeous! and whisked her away to the Mobile Day Spa, sitting right outside Applebee's. She looked fantastic and certainly not like someone that would need us but we soon found out what an inspiration she is. Dawn was Diagnosed with Breast Cancer in February of 2010. Dawn was told that her cancer could be removed with surgery and radiation. Treatment went as planned until Dawn got an infection and while that was being treated it was decided the Chemotherapy was going to be added to Dawn's treatment plan, 4 rounds every 3 weeks. Our "treatment plan" for Dawn was to pamper her with spa services, manicure, pedicure,facial and a shorter haircut. Sandra from Maurices came and outfitted Dawn with an awesome outfit. Friends then gathered to celebrate Dawn's new look. She entered the resturaunt with a smile a mile wide. She beamed and our job was complete.

On Monday of this week we needed to catch up on laundry after having 3 visits in 3 different cities 3 days in a row. I was busy tying up loose ends, making phone calls and laundry at the same time. Time got away from us and we had to leave the hotel to deliver Certificates of Appreciation and Thank you notes to the mall in Bloomington. While at lunch I realized that we forgot to switch the laundry and take it back to our room. We called the Fairfield Inn and told them about our forgetfulness and asked them to just pull it from the washer and place it on the dryer and we would take care of it when we returned. We we arrived in our hotel room, not only did they dry our clothes they were folded and sorted on the bed. What a wonderful surprise. It was very nice to be taken care of. We love the Marriott hotels and the housekeepers that take such good care of us. Thank You.

This trip has been a great success because of my family. They have been tremendous. My mom, Trisha,Dan and Brianna have met us every weekend on our tour. My aunt Sue and my stepfather have each been with us a few times as well. We really don't have a chance to miss home because they bring home to us. Thank you family!!! A Heartfelt Donation

We have had awesome gifts from some amazing retailers. Their generosity never ceases to amaze me. We formed a relationship with Maurices at Hamilton Town Center in Noblesville, Indiana and Leeca the store manager did a fantastic job for our Gorgeous! Woman. She introduced me to her district manager Angie Becker. Last week they stopped by the hotel to see the Mobile Day Spa and to talk about our future, helping one another. To my surprise they presented ME with candy and flowers. I see a wonderful relationship starting flourish.

I have had the opportunity to meet some of the most amazing women on this journey. I was told by a friend that I needed to meet a wonderful lady by the name of Linda Fitzgerald. I was able to catch up with her in Indianapolis last Wednesday. Linda is the CEO of a an organization known as
Affiliated Women International http://www.affiliatedwomen.com/ . This organization is dedicated to empowering women worldwide. Their mission is to be a source to enrich, encourage and equip women for greater empowerment in their homes; communities and across the world. What I thought was going to be a 45 minute meeting turned into an entire evening of networking and building friendships. I was asked to speak to their group and share my story and gave tours of the Mobile Day Spa. I was received with open arms. Thank you Affiliated Women for making me feel right at home.

The Shock we gave to Linda

Linda was under the impression that she was going to lunch and then shopping with her mom and her sister. Imagine her surprise when we approached Linda at the Paradise Cafe at Hamilton Town Center in Noblesville, Indiana with a camera man from Channel 6 to let her know that she was nominated for a day of beauty and that she had won.

Dan escorted Linda down the red carpet and into the Mobile Day Spa for her pampering to begin. We talked with Linda about what was going to take place and consulted with her about what she would like to do with her hair.

Linda is a breast cancer survivor. She has battled cancer 2 times and had a double mastectomy. Beacause of the type of cancer Linda had she was not eligible for regular implants so they had to use muscles and tissue from her abdomen. She told us it was the longest 8 weeks of recovery. All of this with her 2 year old twin boys that she was taking care of by herself. Needless to say Linda took very little if any time for HER!!

Her day began with a manicure and pedicure by Darcy from Rain Salon while I colored and hilighted Linda's hair. She also recieved a facial and a makeup application from Trisha and Leeca from Maurices came to outfit Linda with a new "Rockin' Mom" outfit.

When we finished with her make-over Linda was greeted with a big
Hello Gorgeous! by family and friends at Mo's Irish Pub. Linda Glowed!

She kept saying to us that this seemed so surreal to her. That things like this never happen to her. We assured her that this was truely her dream come true.

Zumba Shelly

Last Saturday June 26th, 2010 we had the opportunity to meet a real FIREBALL!!! Shelly is an amazing women who thought she was going to Markland Mall in Kokomo, Indiana to zumba for 4 hours for an event that was actually for her. Little did she know that we something completely different in mind for her.

Shelly is a breast cancer survivor . She is finished with chemo and is getting ready for her next step, surgery. We thought Shelly could use a bit of pampering. We showed up unannounced on the Zumba Stage with flowers and candy and a big Hello Gorgeous! and Dan, Mike and Seth escorted her off of the stage through the mall and onto the mobile day spa.

Shelly was treated to a manicure, a pedicure and a facial. We found a wig that was fun and spunky like Shelly and Trish applies her make-up. What we did not know was that Mary Martin the Marketing Director at the Markland Mall had sent a note out to all of the retailers letting them know what was happening. Shelly had surprise visitors all day long bringing her gifts. Sears came with a new outfit. Englins showed up with a new pair of shoes. Victoria Secret came with bath goodies. Andrews Jewelers came with a matching pearl necklace, bracelet and earrings for Shelly.
Books-a- million made Shelly her foo fie drink. Ben's Soft Pretzels delivered a fresh hot pretzel to our Mobile Day spa. Everyone at Markland Mall helped give Shelly an amazing day, beyond my wildest dreams,

When we were finished, we escorted Shelly back into the mall where her Zumba cronies, her husband and her parents were waiting for her reveal. She looked amazing and it was very hard to say goodbye! I did not want the day to end any more than Shelly did.

Shelly is very inspirational and tells her story every chance she gets hoping to bring awareness to the fact that anyone can get cancer even a fitness instructor that lives for health.

On Friday evening we were invited to attend a Parrot Party in Carmel, Indiana at the Irsay Pavillion. It sounded like fun so accepted the invitation and boy am I glad we did. What an amazing group of individuals. The Sharon L. Basset Foundation is an organization that helps families in Indiana and Illinois living with breast cancer. The Foundation began as a small fund in 2001 to honor an amazing woman who, while battling breast cancer herself, stopped at nothing to help others as they lived with breast cancer. So I have to tell you how we received our invitation. Brenda, who is one of Sharon Bassett's nieces and one of the organizers of the Parrot Party went to have a manicure done, in Illinois where she lives, for this event. While there Brenda was telling her manicurist the she does not have manicures regularly but this was a special event. As she told her manicurist about the foundation the manicurist asked her if she had ever heard of Hello Gorgeous! Brenda said that she had not but she would look us up. She did and sent me an e-mail, we were in Indianapolis and made it work. It turned out that the Illinois manicurist learned about us at the America's Beauty Show in Chicago. How cool was that!! What a Blessing it was for us to be invited.

Kim Zabrowsky and Trisha Potter came down to Indy to be with us for the event. They brought a little bit of HOME to me!!

Cool Meeting!

Last Thursday we took the day to celebrate Seth's birthday. We had a meeting with Hamilton Town Center to discuss details for the surprise on Sunday and then we took Seth to look at the movies that were playing. Mike's cell phone rang and I answered it "Hello Gorgeous!" as I always do. A voice on the other phone said " My name is Paula and we are in front of a movie theatre in Noblesville, Indiana and we just saw your bus and we are with a group of 30 missionaries and we think what you are doing is awesome and we will be praying for you" I of course started to cry and asked them about their location and told them we were in the bus and we wanted to meet them.
We found out this amazing couple, who's names are Paula and Scott were celebrating their anniversary and that they are from California. They were on a 6 month tour with young Christian musicians ministering to the youth. They told us about their project, we showed them the Mobile Day Spa and told them about what we do.
The coolest thing was that we stood in front of the movie theatre and prayed together. We wished them well and promised to friend each other on facebook. What a Divine connection. It was great.

Busy Week

Well it has been a busy week and I can not believe that tomorrow is already Friday. I have said all along I am going to blink and this tour will be over and I DO NOT want it to end.

Monday we headed back to Elkhart due to what we thought was generator problems, but they said it was working great. On Tuesday we woke up to a shattered window on the Mobile Day Spa so we found a place in Fort Wayne that fixed it for now for us. On Thursday My Baby Boy turned 8! I can not believe that he is 8! Where did the time go? Wasn't it just yesterday I found out I was pregnant? We took Seth to see Toy Story 3. Great for him, I know that this will surprise most of you ..... I cried at the movie!!! We went to Chili's for Dinner and swam until they kicked us out of the pool. It was a great day that I will always cherish, we made great memories and we spent the day together as a family.

Fort Wayne , Indiana was the site of Phyllis Nelson's visit, a very special mom. Phyllis was nominated by her daughter Pam, who happens to be our website GURU. From the first time I met Pam 2 years ago, I wanted to give her mom a special day with Hello Gorgeous!

Phyllis was diagnosed with Mesothelioma in February 2008. Mesothelioma is a Cancer of the Pleurisy (the lining) of the lung. She has gone through Surgery and Chemotherapy. Phyllis has felt very good through her treatment and worked full time at a local high school until 6 months ago. Phyllis is 75!

We pampered Phyllis with spa services, Manicure, Pedicure, Facial and a Haircut. We finished off with a makeup application and a new blouse.

Phyllis's 5 children and their families were awaiting her new look. They a greeted her with a big "Hello Gorgeous!" and hosted a family party for her at her son Eric's home.

A great big thank you to Phyllis's family for a very special day. We now know why she is so special to you!

Another Gorgeous! Surprise

Linda was disappointed to see on the WSBT 11:00 pm news that we had chosen a winner and that it was not her. She had mentioned this to her sister Patty as they sat at Applebees on Ireland Road in South Bend on Tuesday evening. Unbeknownst to her, we were in the parking lot waiting for her to arrive so that we could pamper her as well. We surprised Linda and escorted her into our Mobile Day Spa and started her session with a clothing consultation with Trisha from Dress Barn in
Erskine Village where they generously donated a $100.00 gift card to gift to Linda for a stunning new outfit. Trisha quizzed her on her likes and dislikes then she and Patty were off to shop.

Linda told us that she had been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma shortly after her twins were born. Linda went on maternity leave, her position was eliminated from Honeywell, she was diagnosed and, shortly after that, her husband lost his job. Linda was told that they would have to wait for her cancer to get worse before she could be treated. Needless to say Linda met everyone needs before her own.
We pampered Linda with a facial, manicure, pedicure, hilites, a new haircut and makeup. She looked like she felt .....amazing. We told Linda that we were on a time crunch because she had people waiting for her. We escorted her down the red carpet and asked everyone in Applebees to give Linda a big
"HELLO GORGEOUS!" She was very surprised to see 25 of her family members and closest friends waiting to celebrate her new look. It was wonderful to see her beam. What a great night!

The Gorgeous Endeavor Kickoff Party

What a great evening at Granite City at University Park Mall!! Tracy couldn't have been more surprised, especially when she found out that even the doctors office was involved in delaying her so that she would arrive on time.
Tracy was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in December 2009 while her husband was deployed. This came after her mother was in a terrible car accident that left her needing to be cared for by Tracy. ( Her mother is fine now and came to Tracy's reveal party.)
Tracy was treated to a facial by Trish, The staff from JCPenney's styling salon, Peggy, Penny and Grace came to the Mobile Day Spa to pamper Tracy with a Manicure, Pedicure, Haircolor and Makeup. Mira from Bangs Salon ( who is Tracy's Stylist) gave Tracy a haircut. Kim and Kim from JCPenney's came with a rolling rack of clothes to outfit Tracy with a sassy new look.
Tony from Purrfect Occasions was inside Granite City playing the perfect party music to the 100 plus people that were waiting patiently to see Tracy's new look.
The Hello Gorgeous! volunteers were in full force as were students from Regency Beauty Institute, selling t-shirts and introducing strangers to our wonderful cause.
The big moment came. Everyone shouted "Hello Gorgeous!" and in walked our Gorgeous! Women Tracy. She was shocked to say the least at the number of people that came out to celebrate her and her victory over cancer.
